In northern California, near a big mountain known as Mount Shasta there is a small town with a population of 3,000 people named Weed.
Weed is different from anything you can think about California, there is no beach and barely a summer. Well, 5 months ago when I went to Weed, I was frightened. Such a small town, such a small school…I definitely wasn’t used to that. I hated it, I hated Weed, I hated the school, I hated everything, looking back it seems so stupid. All I wanted was to go home. My first month was awful…I felt like I had no friends and I missed home.
But after that first month, everything changed. I made friends, I loved my school, my teachers, and I became a part of Weed. Weed became Home!
But I didn’t do that alone. I have to thank my incredible host family that supported me the entire time and helped me with whatever I needed. Also, thank you to all of my friends that stuck by my side even with my moods…and a really special thanks to my best friend Anna and, of course, her family for taking me in and always being there for me. You guys are my second family and I will forever be thankful for you.
Well, yesterday I had to say goodbye to Weed. It was heartbreaking. That town is magical, the people are special, and I wish I could have stayed. I’m going to miss everything there: my friends, my family, my runnings to lake shastina, the view of the Mountain and all of the amazing experiences I had. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
See you later, little Weed. I love you
